About the Umoya Energy – Hopefield Wind Farm
Located 125km north of Cape Town on the R45 in the Saldanha Bay Municipality in the Western Cape province, the Umoya Energy – Hopefield Wind Farm generates approximately 176 600 MWh of clean renewable energy every year.
The wind farm began supplying electricity to the grid in late 2013 and achieved commercial operation date (COD) on 1 February 2014, just over one year after construction started. It was the first commercial wind farm in the country to reach this milestone.
